Is it a hedgehog? Is it a bowl of green noodles?

No, it's a soon-to-be-ripped-quite-a-lot sock.

I realised this was too big as soon as I tried it on after finishing the toe increases, but thought I would just wear these as house socks. I have quite a lot of other people's mislaid hiking socks that I put on over my socks when I get home because my feet get very cold. (I should point out I don't actively steal these socks, they just mysteriously end up in my house and if they remain abandoned and unloved for a while I take pity on them and adopt them). But these tend to get quite grubby and abused (kind adoptress I am) - I often forget that I am only wearing socks and go out in them to feed the birds or take the rubbish out - and I didn't want to do that to my first pair of socks.

Then I thought I would give them to my bigger-footed sister, but she lost out by not being up in time, so mine they will be and smaller they will become.

I'm going to rip back and take out some of the increase rows to make a snugger toe, and then I'd like to add some instep shaping when I come to it. This may be a result of reading Nancy Bush's Knitting Vintage Socks in bed this morning, which I bought from Kpixie when ordering yarn because it was on sale. I wasn't a sock knitter then, but I am now, and I have plans. Think they'll ruin the striping?

I really like that yarn! It will make lovely socks. As you mentioned in your previous post, sock knitting is highly addictive, in the best possible way. :)

I am completely in awe of people who can knit socks. I can knit...flat, square things. With the occasional (accidental?!) decrease/increase.

Wow!

I really like the stripes! Sound like you the sock bug has bitten you too. I'm looking forward to seeing the new shaped socks. :) How do you like the Knitting Vintage Socks book? I've been debating between that and Knitting on the Road.

Ha! You've been got. Those look like they are going to be extremely squooshy and comfy. And I say go for the instep shaping--it shouldn't be enough to throw the stripes off too badly, I shouldn't think.

Mmmm...I would keep those too, if I were you. Such nice colors. Worth ripping back for!

Always dangerous, reading knitting books in bed! At least you were smart, and were reading in the morning, when you couldn't lose sleep planning your knitting....
